The Problem...

Even though African Americans comprise only 12-13% of the general population, nationally they make up 25.6% of those awaiting organ transplants and 34.9% of those awaiting a kidney transplant. Here in the state of Tennessee, African-Americans waiting for kidney transplants make up almost 50% of those in need of a kidney transplant. The need is great for African-Americans to participate as donors.  Year after year the rate of minority donors in Tennessee has remained in the 5-9% range while the national average has shown a steady increase in this rate. This disparity demonstrates the need for MOTTEPĀ® of  Tennessee and the fulfillment of its mission.
